As part of its mission to help guests get a good night’s sleep, Westin presents a small vial of Sleep Well Lavender Balm on bedside tables. The brand created a social marketing campaign to promote the balm and needed a library of images for all digital and social channels. We worked with the client’s art direction to showcase the product in a variety of relaxing settings. To manage the volume of shots and formats (including horizontals for web banners and Twitter, squares for Instagram, verticals for Snapchat), I set up a large monitor on set that would show all formats for each image simultaneously. The process ensured that the entire series had a cohesive look — and that the client had a stress-free experience working with my team.
After the Thanksgiving feast we probably could all use a little detox. Cassandra Bodzak’s new book, Eat with Intention, came out right in time. It does not only present recipes for nourishing dishes, but also shares the importance of eating with intention. I established the book’s loose, in-the-moment visual style with the client: Quarto Publishing. We worked with food stylist extraordinaire Mariana Velásquez over a week-long shoot to capture over 60 beautiful food and lifestyle images.
I had the pleasure to photograph Miri Rotkovitz' new book Bubbe and Me in the Kitchen for Sonoma Press last spring. It's a treasure trove of recipes and beautifully styled images by Laurie Knoop and Kristin Stangl. Miri celebrates the food and stories her grandmothers shared with her and also added her own twists to the recipes. On set we had a great time sharing Babka and our own Bubbe, Savta, Grandma, Oma, and Nana memories.

Geared toward crafters, makers, and small business owners, this workshop will offer tips and tools to simply style, light and photograph your products and make them look amazing! Shooting on location at the newly opened West Elm location in DUMBO, students will have the opportunity to stage small scenes and shoot lovely products of their own or those on display at the store, while guided by Big Leo photographer Evi Abeler and prop stylist Robin Zachary. Participants should bring a camera and our instructors will guide you through the process of creating interesting and unique photos that you can use in your online store or in your marketing materials.
This is a BYOC (bring-your-own-camera) workshop that will meet for a brief intro and slideshow presentation by the instructor at the United Photo Industries Gallery before heading out for a guided shoot. The workshop also includes an (optional) wrap-up session and casual group critique, where students can share the work they shot and get feedback from instructors and workshop peers.
