Rossella Rago and her Nonna Romana have released another cookbook and I couldn’t be more honored to be invited to photograph it! This cookbook is all about Sunday Dinners and it was a true family affair with Nonna rolling pasta, Rossella’s mamma painting props by hand, and her papà bridging the heirloom family furniture. We spent a week photographing and eating the best Italian food. I left set with a full heart (and a stomach full of espresso and sambuca). The photography takes inspiration from vintage cookbooks, with ingredients and finished dishes shot on bold backgrounds with pops of additional color. For her book Flavor Bombs, food stylist Charlotte Omnes and I brought to life Chef Giovannina Bellino’s “flavor bombs”—frozen cubes of intense sauce or stock that home cooks can add to dishes. Cassandra Bodzak’s new book, Eat with Intention, emphasizes whole ingredients and nutrition-packed recipes prepared vegan and gluten-free, as a way of eating healthfully without sacrificing the pleasure of food. I established the book’s loose, in-the-moment visual style, working with Cassandra over a week-long shoot to capture her lifestyle and her recipes.
For food/lifestyle blogger and author Candice Kumai’s fourth cookbook, Clean Green Eats, I supported her visual style with lush photographs shot in natural light.
Lifestyle influencer and brand ambassador Hannah Bronfman gave us total creative freedom in taking photos for her new recipe and lifestyle book with Harper Wave, Do What Feels Good. I loved collaborating with sisters Isabel and Caroline and their family on a photo shoot for their upcoming book from Quarto Publishing. For this project we shot images highlighting Vietnamese recipes for Helen Le’s cookbook, Simply Pho. Helen provided guidance from her home in Vietnam, and our team made sure the props and serving ideas were authentic.
I had the opportunity to work closely with author Rossella Rago and her grandmother on this shoot for Cooking with Nonna. Working with the art director, we created a homey, comfortable look using props that might have come from a nonna’s kitchen.
I photographed Miri Rotkovitz's cookbook Bubbe and Me in the Kitchen, which celebrates the food and stories Miri’s grandmothers shared with her and features Miri’s own twists on classic recipes.
Candice Kumai’s cookbook Clean Green Drinks features over 100 recipes for delicious, healthy juices and smoothies. My team and I captured Candice’s drinks and fresh ingredients for these beautiful recipe spreads.
As plant-based diets are becoming more and more common, Lukas Volger presents an alternative to the uninspiring and bland frozen veggie burgers that fill the market. In his cookbook, Veggie Burgers Every Which Way, he teaches how to combine simple, fresh ingredients for flavor profiles that make the veggies the star of the show.
